Happy Valentine's Day!
You are going to get tired of hearing that today lol. I know I probably will. I'm not the biggest fan of the commercialized Valentine's day. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy romance and doing something sweet for your spouse or whoever, I just am over cards & flowers. Neither of those things last. So, if you're going to do something for Valentine's do something memorable. It doesn't have to be extravagant, but a few stolen moments of sincereity with that special person will last a lot longer than that $50 boquet of roses.
OKay off my soap box, I am. Now just because I'm not a flowery kind of person on this auspicious ocasion, doesn't mean that I don't enjoy doing little things for my kids to make it special. Such as making our own Valentine's cards that way they will be different than everyone else in their class.
Layla got the "great catch" valentine with the swedish fish in the bag, and Lauren got the "You Rock" valentine to give to her class with the pop rocks. I lucked up and found free printables here and here (found on Pinterest...of course). I made Layla's teacher a knitted heart pillow that I totally forgot to take a picture of #epicfail, but it was super cute. This morning I decided to give them a little surprise in their lunch boxes and instead of boring ole square sandwhiches they got these...
Of course Layla wasn't really asleep when I thought she was and she heard me talking about it when I said, "let's keep it a secret so it will be a surprise" Layla yells from the bedroom "I heard that, mommy!" so needless to say they knew before school. These are the things that I enjoy about Valentine's day. Even though my hubby and I won't be able to do anything special today due to lack of funds and all the obligations we have throughout the day and night, we will be doing something together this weekend hopefully...and I'll get to kiss him goodnight to night, so thats always a good day.

Its Ok
...To want a piece of chocolate cake right now....this very minute
...To be ready for warm weather to stick around (warm not hot) so perhaps I could throw in a beach day
...That things just haven't seemed to be going our way lately. I'm sure it will all pan out. I'm having faith and leaving it all in God's hands...(he's better with these kinds of things than I am)
...To wish this day was over, the entire day, and that I was already sitting on my couch in my P.J's watching TVD
...That I haven't gotten to buy my hubby anything yet for Valentine's day. Hopefully we'll be able to make up for it on Saturday (fingers crossed)
...That my dearest daughter, Lauren, has been very emotional lately over a few things and I'm really dreading these teenage years that aren't too far off. #lotsofprayer
...To already want a cup of coffee and it's only 1pm. Where is Starbucks when you need them?
Hope ya'll have a great Thursday and a sweet Valentine's Day!
Omg their Vday cards are so cute! I hope I'm as creative as you are when I have my babies! And I want cake too, good thing I'm making one tonight! :)
ReplyDeleteUnique valentines really are the best. I speak as an expert here (that is, a teacher) and I have observed the wild critters (children) in the field (classroom). The pride in their "special" valentines overshadows all others. So, good job there, Mom!
